Department of Business Computing
Business Computing is a branch of Information Technology that primarily deals with the question of how to use computers and computer programs most effectively for business and general purposes. Therefore, a thorough understanding of the field of business management and accounting is equally important to an excellent ability to use computers efficiently and to the limits of their capabilities. Successful candidates in Business Computing are able to select, implement and manage computer systems cost-efficiently and suitable for the intended use in business. Often, this requires research or knowledge in a wide variety of hardware and software systems (offered by commercial vendors or as "open source"), and the ability to match that knowledge to the business needs in innovative ways.
Vision
The department of Business Computing as part of the School of Information Technology at the Polytechnic of Namibia will strive to be recognized as a leader in business computing in the SADC region and in the world, with the aim of advancing Namibia into a knowledge-based society.
Mission
Namibia shall be a country where Information technology is universally and effectively used in public and private organizations, for the improvement of productivity, the success of commercial and other business, and the advancement of life quality and prosperity of the population. The purpose of business computing is to harness the potential of computer based applications for the benefit of all; and to add value to communal activities and businesses. This will be achieved through an innovative, dynamic, responsive and highly effective education, training and research.
